Svetlana is a common Slavic female name, meaning "light", "clean" or "holy".The "author" of this name is Russian poet Vasiliy Andreievich Zhukovskiy (1783-1852) who wrote an epic poem entitled "Svetlana". Public ecceptanice of this poem was great. Svetlana evokes also the great Russian poet A.S. Pushkin in the verses of Eugen Onegin (he compares her to his Tatiana). The epic poem "Svetlana" belongs to the jewels of Russian and international literature. The most similar name to this is Lucia (of Latin word origin, meaning "light") or Roxana (of Old Persian origin,Bactrian: Roshanak; literally "little shiny star" or "light").
