Talk:Svadhyaya

[edit] Merged
I merged the first few sentences of Swadhyay into this article, and removed the rest which was very POV (the previous version of Swadhyay). This page was chosen because according to Google, Svadhyaya is the more popular spelling. Svadhyayaa, which was also suggested here, got practically no Google hits at all. - ulayiti (talk) 07:26, 24 July 2005 (UTC)
Forget it! Svadhyay word has no relationship with the more widely used Swadhyay. Google is just a dumb search engine, knows nothing about real-life situation.
- Shouldn't that be mentioned in the article then? - ulayiti (talk) 22:45, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
Swadhyay is the official spelling of the work inspired by Pandurang Shastriji Athvale (as can be seen on www.swadhyay.org[1]). This spelling of Svadhyaya may be more widespread, but incorrect when referring to Pandurang Shastri Athvale's Swadhyay movement. Please note this vital difference.
The word 'Svadhyaya' or 'Swadhyaya' in Sanskrit language means Self(Sva) Study(adhyaya). The literal meaning of the word needs to be independently identified from a specific movement by a group of people led by a spiritual leader. Once both meanings are incorporated, they should be merged. One cannot argue over the Engish spelling of a foreign word.
Probably one should merge also the entire Yoga-sutra into that article because svadhyaya is discussed there as one of the regular niyamas. :-) It is also important to point out the specific interpretation of all classical YS commentators of svadhyaya as independent study of the scriptural texts, not simply as introspection.
- Comment: Unless it's being used in English in any way besides in reference to the organization, I think it might make more sense to redirect this page to Swadhyay pariwar, a page which also desperately needs attention. -- Superdosh 23:32, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

- I will do the redirect if no one responds in a day or so. -- Superdosh 23:18, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
