Suvad Katana

Suvad Katana (born on April 6, 1969 in Delijaš, near Trnovo; died on January 8, 2005 in Sarajevo) was a Bosnian football player. Sometimes his name is misspelled Suad.
This intelligent defender started playing football in FK Željezničar as a youngster. He made his league debut for the club in 1987. against Red Star Belgrade (0-0). Although still a teenager, he was a regular starter in the squad in following seasons. In 1992, War in Bosnia-Herzegovina started and he moved to Belgium. He played there for KRC Genk (1992-1994), KAA Gent (1994-1996) and RSC Anderlecht (1996-1998). After a season in Turkish Adanaspor, he have returned to Belgium and played for KSC Lokeren (1999-2004). He ended his career in 2004.
He was one of the best defenders in Belgian championship in the 1990s. He won many awards for his performances at various clubs.
He also played for Bosnia-Herzegovina national team. His first game was against Albania on April 24, 1996, and last on October 15, 1998. against Lithuania. In total, he collected 10 caps for the national team.
Unfortunatelly, he died at the age of 36 after a cardial arrest.
