Over the years the area surrounding the Sutton House Hotel has changed considerably with a housing estate, Lyndhurst Estate holding the ground as the most prominent feature, with the Yenton, a local shopping area north of the hotel, holding ground as the local resource for produce, entertainment and fast food. Prior to its development in the early sixties, large detached houses ran alongside the Sutton Road. Nearby just south of the hotel is the Erdington Abbey (St Thomas’s of Canterbury R.C. Church) The hotel attracts a large number of Irish tourists and visitors, for the immediate area still has a high proportion of Irish who have resided in the area for several generations. A number of GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association) fixtures have provided the hotel with prominence for accommodation and meetings for all representatives of these sports.
