Draft of Zero Energy Builings entry /ZEH

My name is Ken Huck. Reach me at kenhuck AT vcn DOT bc DOT ca. I wrote my first Wikipedia edit on 2 Mar 2005. Our website is located at http://www.susten.com

Every day I expand my expertise in the creation of affordable, economically efficient, healthful and ecologically sustainable buildings.

One of my areas of research and study is the chemistry and manufacturing of polymers. My father was a plastics manufacturing engineer so starting from a young age I knew a great deal about the subject. Recently I have learned about significant ecological / health hazards associated with at least five different common plastics (PVC, PTFE, PETE) and presently I am working to discern if polymers can be a part of truly ecologically sustainable buildings and if so how. It seem to me that at present the plastics industry is allowing its interest in profit maximization to overide the interests of the people and society it serves. I intend to share what I learn about plastic hazards by contributing to articles about polymers to Wikipedia.

My learning about building technologies began when in 1978 I built a very well insulated (approaching superinsulated) house with my parents Werner and Margaret.

I have a background in Industrial Engineering including studies at San Jose State University in California USA the University of British Columbia and the British Columbia Institute of Technology in Canada.

I also have a Baccalaurate of Arts from Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. At Concordia I studied the history and philosophy of science in an interdiciplinary program called Science and Human Affairs.

Presently I am licensed in North Carolina as a building contractor and I am Susten's principal. Susten serves as a green builder and energy design consultancy.
