Your concerns about the factual validity of Wikipedia are totally reasonable. Wikipedia is a collaborative work in progress, and the only way that it will become factual is if people (like yourself!) who realise that something is not right pitch in and change it for the better. There are a couple of conventions for editing Wikipedia though, and whether you're here for the long term, or just for one article, it'd be a good idea for you to brush up on them. Here are some:

• cite your sources - this means more than pasting them onto the talk page, it means making an actual citation like this: "(Aniston, 2005)" which goes after your claim, and then the full reference goes at the bottom.
• Try for Neutral point of view (NPOV) - in short, Neutral Point of View means incorporating (not obliterating) different points of view to give a balanced summary.
• Read the talk page first - when you're editing a really controversial topic (like abortion, rape, anarchism, Terry Schiavo) read the talk page and check the edit history just to make sure that what you want to contribute isn't a contentious issue that's going to accidentally stir up trouble.
• Test it in the sandbox - test your editing skills in the sandbox, its fun!

Mostly Wikipedia is about interacting with other people that have the same interests as yourself, and working together to create something (an encyclopedia). If you find that others don't share your views, you need to try and have both views incorporated into the article. If you find that some information is incorrect on Wikipedia, then you can correct it with information that is fully cited and fully reasoned.

If you have a concern that information on Drug Rape is inaccurate, then can you please elaborate your concerns (what is incorrect, what authorities say so, what would be superior) on the talk page? Thanks!!

thanks AnAn. i just got this as I don't come here too often. I actually do cite my resources regularly. In fact most of the external links are mine. That is to say I added them. I am not the person who started editing the drug rape section but I agree with some of the reasoning. I think my only contribution to that section was to add the last three factual resources describing the effects of GHB and rohypnol with citations linked into them. I actually know the girl who did edit the section as we discussed it on another site. She is not able to participate due to problems with trauma and sexual assault. In fact I am the only rape survivor that I know who is emotionally able to participate in the wiki rape talk page.

Hi Anacapa,

I have not read any of the comments or edits on the rape page but came here just to leave you a note. As a fellow survivor I am taking a break from the wiki rape article because being triggered becomes an obstacle to healing after a certain point. The reason I work on my website is to help people in a safe way that does not damage my ability to heal. I used to give presentations on rape trauma syndrome but I had to stop because it was damaging my health. Basically I feel I should tell you I think you may be benefitted/ benefit others just as much by posting on a survivor support board. There are current events forums and awareness raising projects within the survivor community. If you become a part of it you will be helping other survivors who will not damage you as much as Wiki members may. Even if they don't agree with your world view- they will not be unkind about it. The other survivors I have sent to wiki to help edit the article have not been able to stay long. I worry that by concentrating on this article for such a long time you may be causing PTSD symptoms to worsen. I really do encourage you to advocate for survivors (of all genders) rights. I just wanted to warn you that wiki may not be the best place for you to focus all your energy on right now. I hope you are a member of survivor support groups already. The expression 'don't look into the wind' comes to mind. I do it from time to time because it's needed to help change things for the better. It's the sacrifice many survivors make when they break the silence. It's just not something you want to do without taking a break now and then. If you damage yourself you wont be able to help others as well.

Hello Survivor, Thanks for the feedback. I am going to move this discussion to your page so we can see it all on one page and also for privacy. I understand you decision to take a break for now and am fine with it. Just come back when you can and I will be glad to work with you. I know how hard it can be to fight the inside battles and the outside battles at the same time. I would be glad to contribute to clean (non-political) survivor websites and especially those that expose female-male and female-female rape or sexual abuse as that is being silenced now by the mainstream sexual abuse 'industry' which is sexist to the core. I also will heed you warnings because you are right about these risks and because as a fellow survivor I know you are sensitive to things in ways that most non-survivors are not. It would help if you could give me a few specifics about what you mean I might be 'looking into the wind' on...I rarely take offense when people give me honest feedback. I do understand your points about the sacrifice many survivors make when they break the silence. I am learning to take breaks and pick my battles. I am also using this experience to see how people assault those of us who do break the silence. No, that's okay. It was just an attempt to make the abuse table look better bc someone requested it be shown at the top of the page. They thought the image on the justice table was more attractive so i was trying to make a logo for the other table. It's not a big deal.

Hi there A J Hay,

Thanks for Checking in! I am just taking a break. Sometimes (like now) I don't login to edit. When I do that I have an IP talk page and someone (sorta)threatened me on it for editing the rape page so I decided to just chill out. I tried to revert it (put it back after it was deleted so much) but they wouldn't let me and then I edited the socio. bio. section. Just after that I got these alarming messages. Of course it was just to block my IP address but I didn't think anything really warranted it. I was really surprised because we were discussing gradually editing the page down and everything was so civil. None of the people involved were regular editors of the rape page. I have never really corresponded or heard of any of them. I don't know where they came from. Basically it's silly to get involved when people behave like that. I have edited some other wiki's in the mean time. I see someone has suggested reverting the page (putting it back)- that would be great. I'm sure at some point I will be back since I have worked on the rape page for a couple of years so far. I hope to speak with you then! It was nice talking with you.
