The Surrey Stingers are a member of the British Collegiate American Football League (BCAFL)'s Southern Conference-Southern Division.
The Stingers were founded in 1993 under the guidance of Chris Pye, and were initially coached by ex-London Monarchs player Todd Oberdorf. They quickly gained support from several local companies, and obtained enough kit and players to join the BCAFL for the 1994-95 season. The Stingers played their first game, a friendly against division rival Hertfordshire in May 1994, losing 30-0. After a slow start in their first year in the League, the Stingers won their final two games, defeating Hertfordshire 6-2 and Reading 16-0. The Stingers' record was only slightly better the next year, but improved as the season progressed.[1]
Ever since then the Stingers have been consistent competitiors, but have only reached the playoffs twice, by capturing division titles in 2002 & 2006.
