Surfblazer

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Surfblazer was the original name for Jetski that originated in the 60s.

Tim Bedford of Burton on Trent, Staffordshire England, invented the Surfblazer in the early 60s and went on to develop various models that became well known worldwide.

Tim's jetskis were shown on the original Dr Who (escape from the Cybermen) and also, Tomorrow's World, Cliff Richard's personal programmes in the 70s to name but a few.

The river Trent in Burton on Trent accommodated Tim's jetski's with some great stretchs to open up the throttle. Thankfully there were no speed restrictions in those days. Often you would find his children testing them out with him.

Tim, was a skilled development engineer, his genious mind could often get him into hot water. In the early years he had a secrecy order slapped on his work from the ministry of defence, for his design on the channelling for the propshaft. Naturally this caused major cash-flow problems for such a man and his young family, but again it was a tribute to the skill this man actually possessed.

Tragically Tim Bedford's life was cut short in October 2002 but his memory and dream will live on certainly in every jetski worldwide.
