The first school of the Surendranath Group of Educational Institutions was established in 1883 by Rastraguru Surendranath Banerjea, one of the earliest leaders of India's Independence Movement. Presently, the Trust set up by Sir Surendranath to manage the affairs of the educational institutions is responsible for setting up and managing 4 schools and 4 colleges where young people of every social class, community or lingustic group are educated through the medium of English or regional languages. This school enjoys minority status under Article 30 of the constitution of India and is a protected institution and declared as such by the High Court in it’s Originating Summons. The first Trustees led by Sir Surendranath Banerjea, Sir Ashutosh Chaudhuri and Shri Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri formed and set up the National Council of Education in Calcutta, which is nothing else but the Jadavpur University, one of the foremost seats of learning in the country. Institution run by the Trust boast of distinguished alumni : Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India ; Dr. Bijan Kumar Mukherjee, the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India; Dr. Harendra Coomar Mukherjee , the first Governor of Bengal under the Constitution –all of them studied and passed out of educational institutions run by this trust. To commemorate a hundred years after the setting up of the first school of the Surendranath Group, this school has been established by Sarasi Bala Debi Trust with assistance from other educational trusts and persons committed to social work as an English Medium Senior Secondary School adopting the syllabi and affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education.

The School has two separate buildings for the Primary Section and the Senior Section. The Primary wing has it’s own playground and caters to the needs of new learners under the guidance of experienced teachers. The Senior Wing is spread in four floors. There are three separate well equipped laboratories for Physics, Chemistry and Biology. To facilitate the students with their vast syllabus the school has a well stocked library having over 10,000 books. It has Fiction, Reference and Subject books and caters to the needs of the students. This is an age of computers. Computers have invaded all walks of life to such an extent that computer literacy has become the order of the day. To facilitate the students with this the school has two separate computer labs having 25 Pentium graded computer each, along with the necessary soft wares.
