Why is this PD? Who is the copyright holder? It seems to be a direct copy of an image at [1] which in turn is a cropped version of an image at [2]. Those suggest it was not 1941. --Henrygb 13:11, 10 Feb 2005 (UTC)

The original image would have come from German archives (it's certainly been reproduced a lot - I have a copy in a book somewhere). As I understand it, the papers and records of the Nazi government were seized by the Allies and were declared to be war booty, voiding any copyrights that might have existed. But I very much doubt that any copyright was exercised over this photo in the first place, given that it was a propaganda image. -- ChrisO 18:34, 10 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Actually, forget it - it turns out that photos published more than 50 years ago in Germany are public domain under German copyright law. See Template:PD-Germany. -- ChrisO 22:18, 10 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Thanks - that answers my question (even if strictly it was published in England, by dropping it out of planes). --Henrygb 10:26, 11 Feb 2005 (UTC)
