[edit] Editing approach
I liked your changes on the Mark Souder article, which I've further edited. I did want to make two suggestions about your approach:
- I don't think it's necessary to explain on an article's talk page what you've done, unless you really think it's going to be controversial. (I don't think Project VoteSmart is.) In general, you can follow WP:BB and judge by the reaction how much you need to explain. (One way to split the difference is to do a possibly more controversial edit by itself, rather than with other changes, giving you the entire edit summary to explain.) It's best to leave the talk page to things that are likely to generate a dialog. (I do often post to the talk page when I'm removing something that I think will generate controversy, when I don't have enough room in the edit summary to provide an adequate explanation.)
- It's generous of you to comment out the text you're removing rather than deleting it entirely, but I think that the negative aspects of that should be considered: It's difficult for editors to follow what is and what is not in the article, particularly if everyone took this approach. The diff function on the history page, plus the ability (via the history page) to pull up any prior version of the page, does provide (in my opinion) an adequate trail to see what has happened, and the ability to copy/paste text from a prior version rather than having to retype it. So commenting out something isn't critical. (And, in fact, I've not seen it done elsewhere - commenting is usually done only to provide guidance/direction, or [I've seen this only once or twice] to note missing information.) I think of comments as sort of "tips", if that is any help. John Broughton | Talk 14:59, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Speedster (comics)
Hi. Sorry to bother you, but it looks we might have an edit war at speedster (comics) between myself and Ace Class Shadow. If you could chime in with your opinion on that article’s talk page, so that we can achieve some sort of consensus, it would be appreciated. Thanks. Nightscream 10:31, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
