Supersystem

This article is about the band Supersystem. For the album of the same name by the New Zealand rock band, The Feelers, see Supersystem (album). For the seminal poker book by Doyle Brunson, see Super/System.

Supersystem is a band from Washington, D.C. that is described as a mix of rock, punk, pop and dance music. Originally El Guapo, the group changed their name because of potential legal issues, a new drummer, and general dislike of the original name. The band consists of keyboardist Pete Cafarella, guitarist Rafael Cohen, bassist Justin Destroyer (Justin Moyer), and drummer Joshua Blair. Justin Moyer occasionally plays guitar in the band Antelope, and records and tours under the name Edie Sedgwick. Josh Blair also drums in Orthrelm. Pete Cafarella also plays in Shy Child, along with drummer Nate Smith, who was in El Guapo before they signed with Dischord.

As of late November, 2006 Supersystem has called it quits, a statement on their web site reads:

After 10 years, the members of Supersystem/El Guapo have decided to disband. From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to thank everyone at Touch and Go, Dischord, Flower, Locusta, and others too numerous to name here for all your help over the years.

Most of all we would like to thank everyone who supported us, saw us play, listened to our music, set up a show, played a show with us, or otherwise participated in making our time as a band really awesome. We appreciate it and will miss you!

Love, Supersystem contact@supersystemband.com

The break up did not receive press attention until early December, despite being posted on their site just after Thanksgiving.

Rafael Cohen continues to DJ the indie dance night circuit and is currently working with Molly Schnick, formerly of Out Hud, on an unknown project. [1]
