Superordinate goals

Superordinate goals, in psychology, are where two or more people or groups must be involved to achieve a specific goal, each group or individual must contribute.
Muzafer Sherif (1953) performed a study involivng a group of boys at a camp that were in opposition to one another. He was able to successfully bring these two groups together by using a superordinated goal. The end result of the study was bonding of both groups.
