- Clemens Family Markets (Pennsylvania) Sold stores in 2006 to Ahold which were folded into the Giant-Carlisle chain. Other stores were sold to Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company to be operated as Super Fresh.
- Eagle Food Centers (headquartered in Milan, Illinois. Two Eagle Country Market stores were purchased by Downtown Eagle Corporation, which continue to run the stores.)
- Farm Fresh Supermarket Well-run chain of 18 supermarkets in Greater Baltimore, MD area. Sold in 1995 by Jack Millman of Pikesville, MD.
- Food Fair closed in the 90's. Pantry Pride was part of Food Fair.

- Henke - Pillot Foods (Houston, Texas) Became Kroger in 1960's.
- Hills Supermarkets (Headquarters was in Brentwood, NY) Closed in late 1970's - Early 1980's
- Jitney-Jungle Well-loved deep-south chain which went bankrupt after swallowing the Delchamps chain--many locations were sold to Winn-Dixie
