[edit] The competition
A player selects a squad of thirty players from the AFL to play in a squad. These players have a range of salaries which which restricts which player can be purchased as there is a salary cap that you must stay under, at $10,000,000. The players performances each week earn Supercoach points. The coach that amasses the highest amount of points in a round wins the weekly prize of $1000. The overall winner, the coach who has the most points at the end of the season, win a prize of $20000 plus $5000 to a local football club. [edit] High Scoring Players
Supercoach differs slightly to Dream Team as quality players seem to score well every week, whereas in Dream Team there is a tendency for mediocre players to score well. A reason for this is the scoring system is more accurate. Players that are renowned for high scoring, and are usually very expensive include;
- Chris Judd
- Adam Goodes
- Joel Bowden
- Nick Riewoldt
- Nick Dal Santo
- Luke Hodge
- Shaun Burgoyne
- Nathan Buckley
- Jonathan Brown
- Barry Hall
[edit] Injuries and Rookies
Injuries can have a profound affect on price, as in the case of Justin Koschitzke in 2007's competition, where he has a low starting price of just over $150,000. Usually rookies start off at about $90000. However in the 2007 competiton, the top 10 draft picks from the AFl National Draft are at higher prices, with a sliding scale. Number 1 draft pick Bryce Gibbs is priced at $140000. These sorts of players are favoured by coaches.
[edit] Positions
This year Supercoach has made a variety of changes to positions. In a team you may have; 7 Forwards 6 Midfielders 7 Backmen 2 Ruckman
in your starting 22. Each team may also have 2 emergancies for each position
[edit] Captain and Emergancies
Each squad may select a captain, who, every week, earns double points for the previous week's performance.
Emergancies may be selected to replace a player who do not take the field in an AFL game on the corresponding weekend. Each team may have up to three emergancies. An emergancy can only take the field for a player who plays the same position as them.
[edit] Leagues
As well as the prizes, the competition has leagues so you can compete against family and friends. 16 teams are placed into a league. At Round 4 of the AFL season, each side will be able to compete against every other team. The team that scores the highest amound of points wins. Each team will play each of the other teams once. At Round 19, a finals series between the top 8 teams begins. Another finals series is run for teams finishing in the lower 8. The finals are run the same way as the AFL finals series.
