Super Robot Wars Original Generations
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Super Robot Wars Original Generations (Japanese スーパーロボット大戦オリジナルジェネレーシオンズ, Romaji Suupaa Robotto Taisen Orijinaru Jenereeshionzu) is a game in the popular Super Robot Wars series of turn-based tactics video games. Original Generations is a remake of the two Original Generation games for the Game Boy Advance and is intended to celebrate the series' 15th anniversary.
On September 29, 2006, the game's producer announced on an SRW weblog that the official release date of Original Generations would be January 25, 2007. However, the release date was pushed back to an undetermined date as of December 2006[1]. With the release of the final episode of Super Robot Wars Original Generation: Divine Wars, a television commercial for the game was released, with the official release dated for June 28, 2007.

[edit] Game System
Original Generations is being developed by the team that produced Super Robot Wars MX, and uses high-energy, dynamic action for the in-game battle sequences. On April 26, 2006, video game website The Magic Box reported that the game would use Super Robot Wars Alpha 3's gameplay mechanics, leading some to speculate that this meant the Squad System. However, since Magic Box has been known to make mistakes in the past, most fans are taking this information lightly. Also, no other sources have been found in support of the Squad System, and other fans say that the units/pilots in-game doesn't amount to being fully able to utilize the Squad System, unlike SRW Alpha 2 and SRW Alpha 3's massive number of units/pilots.
The official site for Original Generations shows there are similarities in the user interface and battle screen to Alpha 3, though it could just be coincidence, as the producing team may have been influenced by the design of Alpha 3.
Preview videos feature a new combat ability called the "Twin Battle System," which appears to allow two adjacent units to attack simultaneously.
[edit] Changes and Additions
Though Original Generations is said to be a remake of the two previous Original Generation games, Banpresto has promised a fair amount of new content, mostly in terms of new mecha. This includes:
- Compatible Kaiser, the giant robot from Banpresto's Super Famicon game The Great Battle IV (redesigned for the game by mechanical designer Masami Obari), as well as one of its pilots, Fighter Roar (the other three pilots, the V2 Gundam, Kamen Rider ZO and Ultraman Powered, are not included due to licensing reasons). Roar's appearance in Original Generations is believed to be a direct continuation of the plot of Great Battle IV, with Roar and Compatible Kaiser being thrown into the universe of Original Generation by accident. Somehow, Roar has manifested a human identity, Kohta Azuma, who transforms into Fighter Roar using the Roar Armor. Banpresto has heavily hinted that Fighter Roar would be playable within the game, much like G Gundam's Domon Kasshu and Master Asia occasionally are in standard Super Robot Wars games.
- Also confirmed is Raul Gureden (Greydon), the male star of Super Robot Wars Reversal for the Game Boy Advance. Raul appears along with his friends, Raji Montoya and Mizuho Saiki, and once more pilots the EXF-02 Excellence. So far, only the Striker, Cosmodriver, and Flyer frames are confirmed for the Excellence Series. The official website says that Fiona, Raul's female counterpart (also the other playable selectable protagonist from R), is actually his (slightly) younger twin sister, and also a test pilot for the Excellence.
- Additional mecha for the game include
- ART-1, Advanced Real Personal Trooper Test Type-1 (designed by mechanical designer Hajime Katoki). As its name implies, it is an advanced test unit of the Real Personal Trooper Type-1, the R-1. It has the ability to transform into a flight mode (dubbed "ART-Wing"), and will be piloted by Ryusei Date. Some fans speculate that the ART-1 will be a component of SRX Altered Banpreios, but Famitsu's information on the game says that this is highly unlikely.
- XRAM-004FA Armorlion, a customized version of the DCAM-04 Lion, designed by Ryoto Hikawa. It is a full armor model, featuring additional parts inspired by the Gespenst, Huckebein, and Alt Eisen.
- PTX-001RV Gespenst Type RV, the personal unit of Gilliam Yeager. It is modified from the PTX-001R Gespenst Rapidity Type and features a flight unit and a Mega Buster Cannon. Some fans suspect that this unit will be revealed as (or become) Gilliam's dimension-jumping XN Geist.
- VTX-000 Mironga, the prototype of the VTX-001 Bartoll, the enemy mecha from the Super Robot Wars Original Generation: The Animation OVA. Banpresto has said that the Mironga will probably appear in an adaptation of the OVA's plot, happening later in the game as bonus stages. This unit's first appearance was in the Original Generation OVA's Sound Cinemas.
- XRAM-006VC Siegerlion, a heavily modified version of Leona Garstein's DCAM-06C Guarlion Custom, featuring a T-Link System and additional Tesla Drives. It was customized by Tasuku Shinguji, pilot of the Giganscudo Duro.
- YAM-007-1 Astelion AX, the upgrade to the prototype Astelion, piloted by Ibis Douglas. It is modified so that Tsugumi Takakura will accompany Ibis as a co-pilot, as well as utilizing new attack maneveurs the Astelion could not use before.
Banpresto has stated that Original Generations will have the largest amount of pilot cut-ins in the franchise's history, along with individual, unique animations for certain pilots when using equipable weapons (i.e. Brooklyn Luckfield with the Shishio Blade).
