[edit] Gameplay
[edit] Basic Gameplay
The game is based on a very simple concept. You have a monkey in plastic ball. The monkey is in a labyrinth. Players use the digital pad to tilt the labyrinth. (which is somewhat difficult when compared to console version of the Monkey Ball series) The object is to get to the goal at the end of the maze before the allotted time expires and without falling off. The gameplay is most similar to Marble Madness.
[edit] Levels
There are sixtyfive levels in the game. Ten are under the skill level of beginner, twenty classified as advanced, thirty as expert, and five as master. All stages of a skill level are played at once. In addition there are three extra stages that can be attempted after completing the skill level. Hazards in the levels include inclines, obstacles, and occasionally drops and moving objects. Some levels have alternate goals that allow the player to skip several levels. Some levels are bonus levels where the object is to collect bananas.
[edit] Collectibles
Players are given three lives per continue, and gain an additional life when a player collects 100 of the many bananas strewn about the stages. The more one plays the main game the more points are acquired. These allow the player to unlock minigames, stages, and extra continues.
[edit] Mini-Games
The game has several minigames that are both single and multiplayer. They can be played with multiple game paks and a system link, or used with one game pak and taking turns (when noted).
[edit] Monkey Duel
This is a two-player only version of regular mode, a race to the goal of the chosen level.
[edit] Monkey Fight
In this game the monkeys attach boxing gloves to their balls and try to knock each other off a floating platform. Powerups abound.
[edit] Monkey Bowling
An arcady game of aiming and timing tasks for bowling.
[edit] Monkey Golf
A simple game of minigolf replacing balls with monkeyballs.
