[edit] Synopsis

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Ludwig creates a pendant for Bowser that will allow him to use the Mario Bros.' Power-Ups. However, the only flaw is that it will only work on on Earth, but Bowser considers this an advantage, because the Marios can't get their Power-Ups on Earth. With that, he kidnaps Luigi and drags him through a warp pipe. Mario gives chase after him, and Princess Peach leaves Toad behind, in spite of his objections.

Upon Mario and Peach having followed him to Paris, Bowser lets Luigi go and then makes use of his pendant to get a Raccoon Suit. He then captures Peach and ties her to the Eiffel Tower. Mario and Luigi try to reason with him from a police helicopter, but Bowser simply knocks them down onto an emerging submarine. Bowser then dons a Frog Suit and kicks the submarine, which hurts his foot. Sore over that, he throws the Mario Bros. and the submarine's unnamed captain into the Bastille prison. Afterwards, he calls up the Koopalings, and they join him in a crime spree.

In the meantime, Peach throws a warpogram message to Toad. Upon receiving the message, Toad gathers several Power-Ups and then heads for the Bastille to deliver a Raccoon Suit (disguised as a birthday cake) to the Marios. Mario immediately transforms into Raccoon Mario and breaks apart the wall, allowing him and Luigi (and the submarine captain) to escape. Bowser finds out and begins to duke it out with the Mario Bros., who fight back using the Power-Ups that Toad has brought. Eventually, Bowser's pendant overloads, and he is blasted off like a rocket back to the Mushroom Kingdom. Ludwig, Iggy, Lemmy, and Wendy follow Bowser shortly afterwards, while everyone else thanks Toad for his help.

[edit] Trivia/Goofs

  • This is the only time in the entire run of the Super Mario franchise where Koopa is shown using Power-Ups.
  • Other than the introduction sequence, this episode is the only animated appearance of the Kuribo's Shoe.
  • This episode's title shares its name with that of an enemy seen in Super Mario World.
  • Interesting, the Frog Suit is prominent in this episode, which mostly takes place in Paris, France. Whether the writers deliberately intended this or not, "frog" is considered a prejorative term to the French.
  • The "Look! Up in the sky!"/"Is it a bird?"/"Is it a plane?" conversation is an obvious allusion to Superman.
  • In many shots in this episode (in Paris), there are clouds with eyes on them, which they shouldn't have, since Paris is obviously not in the Mushroom World.
  • For some reason, the characters prounce the word "Kuribo" as Kurubee. While no explaination is given for this, one might assume that it was a translation error taken from the Japanese version of the game.
  • Bowser simultaneously uses the Raccoon and Fire powers at once; something impossible to do in the game.
  • Whenever Bowser is depicted in the Frog Suit, his shell is normally worn under it. However, during one shot where he approaches the submarine to kick it, his shell looks like it is being worn over the Frog Suit.
