From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Super Bowl at XL (XL is the Roman numeral for 40) was a series of television specials that aired on ESPN in February 2006 to promote ABC's telecast of Super Bowl XL.

The series consisted of seven distinct specials:

  • "Super Bowl Top 10" (one hour) contained several lists of 10 items related to the game, including best coaches, best scoring drives, and most unusual moments. Stuart Scott was the host.
  • "Super Bowl 40-Man Depth Chart" (one hour) honored the greatest players from the first 39 games, broken down by position. Chris Berman was the host.
  • "40 Minutes That Define the Super Bowl" (one hour) was the producers' selections of the most important events in and around the game, arranged in chronological order and totalling exactly 40 minutes. Dan Patrick was the host.
  • "40 Things You Didn't Know About the Super Bowl" (half-hour) features an unusual fact from each of the first 39 games, plus a bonus fact about the then-upcoming game. Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic were the host.
  • "Sounds of the Super Bowl" (half-hour) was a compilation of the best soundbites captured by NFL Films on game day; Steve Sabol, president of NFL Films, was the host.
  • "Hidden Images of the Super Bowl" (half-hour) featured rarely-seen and never-before-seen footage from the game; Sabol was the host.
  • On "Suzy Kolber's Super Bowl XL Interview Special" (half-hour), Kolber talked to fellow ESPN personalities Joe Theismann, Tom Jackson, and Ron Jaworski about their Super Bowl experiences.

All hosts shot their segments on location at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, which was the site of Super Bowls I and VII. Except for the two NFL Films shows, they were produced by Televerse Media in cooperation with ESPN Original Entertainment.

The programs re-aired on ESPN Classic and ESPN2 between January 8 and January 12, 2007.
