[edit] Plot

An unsuccessful diabolical genius, High Warlord Van Kraken is an aspiring engineer who was forced into a career in alchemy after failing to market his unique gadgets. Now in competition with another alchemist, he has invented a formula for a new elixir which he believes will eliminate his competition, but one critical ingredient stands between him and his success, the Illegal Danish, a pastry with mystical powers which is heavily guarded by an alliance guild organized to protect it from getting into the wrong hands. In an attempt to retrieve the danish, Van Kraken creates a robot that resembles an alliance dwarf to infiltrate the fortress which guards it, modeling it after an officer from Theramore, Floivan. Meanwhile, the Illegal Danish guild has uncovered an unknown source causing portals and other teleportation devices to malfunction in the world of Azeroth, which leads to a meeting with the guild.

During a guild meeting, a key officer, Rasi, a feral druid trusted by the Illegal Danish is partnered with Basutei, a newly recruited paladin to locate the cause of the portal disruptions. During the meeting, Floivan arrives and is accused of being an imposter causing the guild to attempt to capture him. After a brief stop at the pub, Floivan steals a tank, driving it wildly through Ironforge and running over a noobish gnome trying to recuit members into his guild.

Over the course of the episode, Rasi & Basutei are misdirected by their guildmaster Puff, and end up finding a snack machine filled with Goblin Cakes where the supposed location of the portal disruption had been marked on their map. Meanwhile, Floivan & Dirti begin their own adventure after their tank crash lands in Stranglethorn Vale, a desolate jungle and home of tribal murlocs. As Basutei and Rasi return from their quest, they discover Floivan X, the imposter built by Van Kraken who has taken the danish and is attempting to bring it back to his lab. An intense battle takes place and Van Kraken has the upper hand, even after the Arcanite Reaper wielding warrior Kiljoy attempts to save the day. He is destroyed in a single shot by Floivan X's powerful arsenal of weaponry. Basutei attempts to escape the scene but is caught and cannoned across the world, landing in the middle of a Horde Rave Party known as Club Thrall. The episode is open ended, leaving the viewers questioning what will happen next to the main characters in part two, Escape from Orgrimmar, which is currently in production.

[edit] The Music

Unlike most tradition fan-based Machinima, the entire score was entirely written specifically for the movie by Clint Hackleman also known as Myndflame. The soundtrack, "Illegal Danish: Super Snacks Soundtrack" features about 30 minutes of original music inspired and written during the creation of the movie and Clint's personal experiences in the World of Warcraft. It features several popular titles including "Club Thrall" and "MC Raiders", a rap parody of a raiders experience in Molten Core, the first 40-man raid dungeon released in World of Warcraft and has sold more albums than any other Independent Machinima video.

[edit] Reviews

Machinima Premiere "In February of 2006, the Dementia Myndflame team released "Super Snacks" as an entrant for the Xfire Blizzard movie contest, sweeping nearly every 1st place award. With well over 1 million downloads to date, it has become one of the highest distributed WoW Machinima videos in history."

Stupid Evil Bastard

"This is an exceptionally well done and amusing video and I’m looking forward to part 2, but considering that this first one took some 1500 hours to make it’s probably safe to say the sequel may be a while yet. Even if you don’t play WoW you’ll probably still find this amusing. And if you do play then it should be highly amusing."

Project Paradox

"This is one of the machinimas that turned them into a Warcraft fan meme. Unlike other machinimas, it’s actually very well done and much-deserving of the awards it’s won."

Amorphous Blob

"First off, the original soundtrack for this movie is awesome! It adds so much to the film and right off the bat, it puts you in a perfect mood. What is also immediately evident, are the special effects for this movie. Although later in the movie they get to be complex, never once do they overwhelm you in a negative way. They fit perfectly in with the scenes and the flow of the film, while also adding an extra element that really makes this movie shine. The voice acting is also perfect in this way. The quality is excellent and isn't over-dramatic or under-experienced. These actors do the characters justice.

But lets get to the movie itself. The story is very creative, and comical. Throughout the movie are blunt laughs, but also subtle ones that only World of Warcraft players would get. For anyone who doesn't play World of Warcraft, there is a lot to like about the movie, however it might seem a bit long. To someone who does play, there is always something to laugh at.

The dance sequence at the end of the movie was kind of lengthy, although not nearly as bad as some others. At first, I thought about giving it a 4.5 in overall ratings. But then after watching it again, it really is just a great Machinima movie (especially for myself being a WoW player). The soundtrack is amazing, the special effects are outstanding, and the voice acting is perfect. There really isn't much else you can ask from a movie like this. "
