It was not translated into English for a North American release because Dragon Ball Z, the series it is based on, was not yet officially dubbed.

[edit] Characters

[edit] Featured modes

[edit] Classic Fight

The mode is a classic fight mode, allowing battles of three kinds:

  • Player 1 versus Player 2.
  • Player versus CPU.
  • CPU versus CPU.

[edit] Tournament

Much like the previous Dragon Ball Z: Super Butouden, the tournament mode allows up to eight characters, humans or CPU, to fight for the title of champion.

[edit] Practice

The training mode uses the same system as the classic fight mode, but health does not decrease, allowing players to practice as long as they want.

[edit] Options

Allows the player to set up details such as the difficulty, and listen to all musics and sounds in the game.

[edit] Secrets

[edit] Hidden character

Future Trunks can be unlocked by using a cheat code during the opening scene of the game. He appears above Buu on the character selection screen.

[edit] Secret cheat codes

Cheat codes can be entered during the short conversation of the characters at the beginning of a fight. Once activated, a colored aura bursts out of the character to either symbolize increased defense (blue), increased strength (orange) or both defense and strength (red). Two levels of increase are possible : low increase (no lightning) or high increase (with lightnings), which lead to six possible cheat codes to enhance a character.

[edit] Meteor Smashes

Secret commands, not displayed in the commands list, make one character performs a spectacular attack which takes much health to the ennemy. The appearance of the attack depends on the character using it. However, two characters do not have such moves: Jinzoningen 18 and East Kaioshin. The name of the Meteor Smashes were spelled as "Meteor Saiyajin" or "Meteor Demon" in the game, so it was considered by fans that being neither saiyanjin nor demons, these two characters could not have this kind of technics.

[edit] Turbo Mode

The game can be accelerated by holding certain buttons from the very start of the game to the main title screen. The player knows it works thanks to a change of color in the title. There are several levels of high speed, depending on the buttons the player has held. The color of the title adapts to the level of high speed activated.

[edit] Elements not included in the final version

Using a cheat device like an Action Replay allows a player to reach the Debug Menu if the proper code is entered. Among other things, two elements which are apparently not featured in the game can be found:

  • An alternative background for the plain stage, which is different in the fact that the statues of Kuririn and Piccolo can be seen.
  • A character sprite of Trunks in his normal un-Super Saiyajin form.

In the game, the character selection takes the form of cubes with pictures of the characters. Once a character has been selected, the same cubes change their pictures to show the stage selection. Since making Future Trunks available adds a new cube for him, it has been speculated that a secret additionnal stage may exist, so that Future Trunks has his own stage. If that's the case, it could be the alternative plain stage described above. However, no one has been able to find proof that the stage can actually be accessed in the game, it might be nothing but a data left off.
