Sunwapta
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sunwapta is a Stoney Indian word meaning "turbulent river" or "radiating waves" (as in those waves created when a stone is dropped into a pool of water).
A number of geographic features in Jasper National Park of Canada have been named after this name:
- Sunwapta Peak - 3,315 metres
- Sunwapta River
- Sunwapta Falls
Additionally, in 1934, Dr. George Richard Agar Rice included the word in his new Edmonton, Alberta based radio station company: Sunwapta Broadcasting.
