Sunnybank, Bury

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sunnybank is a residential district, to the south of Bury in Greater Manchester. The area consists mostly of semi-detached houses, built in the post-war period. The main thoroughfare is Sunnybank Road, which links Manchester Road to the village of Unsworth, which itself is now a residential suburb, rather than the isolated village it once was. Sunnybank has a selection of shops and is home to a sizeable Jewish community, with a synagogue situated at the Manchester Road end of the estate. It also has a pub:The Robert Peel, and a primary school. In past times the area has been plagued by local youths who hang around outside the shops most of these coming from the Hillock estate in Unsworth, during the worst time Greater Manchester police maintained a presence there, especially at weekends. More recently because of the presence of the Police the youths have moved on to the Hollins area. Sunnybank has a large field that is next to the primary school many dog walkers and footballers play on there, in 2004 a sports 'cage' was built at the top end of field, howevery this led to the removal of the goal posts in the middle of the field that many felt should have stayed, no replacements have ever gone up.
