Sunny Mehta is a professional poker player, poker author, and musician. He is co-author of "Professional No-Limit Hold 'em: Volume 1" (Two Plus Two Publishing).

Sunny was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, but grew up in Wyckoff, New Jersey. He graduated Ramapo High School in 1996 and went on to study music at the conservatory level. After four years at the University of Miami School of Music, Sunny graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Studio Music and Jazz Guitar.

At the beginning of 2002, Sunny moved to New Orleans, Louisiana. His notable performances and recording projects include The Funkin’ Horns, Electravibe, Jerry Jumonville, The New Orleans Funk Project, Sista Teedy, Lani Ramos, showband guitarist for Carnival Cruises, and others. Sunny also became associate director of the Andy Hymel School of Music in 2003.

In late 2003, Sunny began playing poker and took a great interest in No-Limit Texas Hold ‘em. He finished third in the New Orleans WSOP Satellite Tournament in May of 2004. Through the poker strategy forums at twoplustwo.com, he met Matt Flynn, who shared his interest in playing and analyzing poker. By mid-2004, Sunny was playing poker professionally. He started by playing low stakes online games and various local home games, and by 2005 he was playing in the biggest no-limit hold ‘em cash games in New Orleans.

After Hurricane Katrina in August of 2005, Sunny fled New Orleans and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. He became a fixture in the local high stakes no-limit hold ‘em cash games, and he also played online and at various card rooms in Los Angeles, California. In Las Vegas he met poker author Ed Miller – himself a New Orleans native. Ed introduced Sunny to Mason Malmuth – owner of Two Plus Two Publishing.

In January of 2006, Sunny cashed in 13th place in the $1,500 Buy-In No-Limit Hold ‘em Tournament at the Jack Binion World Poker Open in Tunica, Mississippi. Despite enjoying the success in Las Vegas and Tunica, Sunny pined for the unique culture of New Orleans. He moved back to the Big Easy in February of 2006. He introduced Matt to Mason and Ed, and a book project took form in March of 2006.

Sunny spent the remainder of 2006 playing high stakes online poker and writing “Professional No-Limit Hold ‘em: Volume 1”. The book – co-written with Ed Miller and Matt Flynn – is scheduled for release by Two Plus Two Publishing in spring of 2007.

Sunny currently lives in New Orleans where he plays poker, writes about poker, coaches poker, plays music, writes music, and enjoys the local flavor.
