Sundhi

Sundhi is a prominent caste in Orissa. Its main occupation is cultivating sara (a local type of liquor). This caste is also found in the northeast districts of Andhra Pradesh: Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, and Visakhapatnam. Shundi is also called Sondi in Andhra Pradesh. They are also located in some parts of Chattisgarh, Bihar and West Bengal.

The caste is divided into two sects named Upper Sundhi and Lower Sundhi (also known as Behera Sundhi). Most of the Sundhis are well educated, particularly in Andhra Pradesh. One of the rich sects is in the upper coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh. Srikakulam district has communities (ichapuram to Srikakulam) and also some of the migrants are seen in Hyderabad and other places. In state capital of Andhra Pradesh, there are about 200 families distributed in many sectors of life.
