Sundar Narasimhan co-authored the book "On to Java" with Patrick Winston . He went to the Lawrence School, Tamil Nadu, India. He was the all-India first rank holder in the matriculation examination in the year 1977. He studied mechanical engineering at IIT Madras where he topped his batch and got the President's Gold Medal in the year 1983. He did his masters and PhD in MIT, Boston in the Artificial Intelligence lab.
