Sunbeams School

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sunbeams School is a private school located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was one of the first schools to establish English as the medium of instruction. Up until mid-1990s the school provided instruction through Grade 5, but Sunbeams is now conducting O'Level exams in Grade 10, and is planning to start Grade 11 and 12 along with A'Levels soon. It was founded by Niloufer Manzur in the 1970s. The school currently has two campuses, located in the residential district of Dhanmondi in Dhaka and the construction of a bigger and better campus has started in Uttara. Sunbeams, after starting to allow the O'Level exams since 1998 managed to consistently have the highest percentage of 'A' grades in all subjects by its students so far. Though the school provides high quality academic education, its lack to facilitate sporting activities was not liked by quite a lot of people. But as Sunbeams is now constructing a much bigger campus with basketball courts, cricket, soccer fields, a swimming pool etc. it has also noted an improvement in the past few and current inter-school basketball, football and cricket tournaments.
