[edit] Telugu Template

Hi,

The template you are repeatedly trying to remove is there for a good purpose. It is designed to show Indic script users (which includes Telugu) that before they can view Indic text properly, they need to enable complex text support on their computer. The only systems where it comes automatically enabled is Windows Vista and certain Linux distributions.

The image is merely representative of "complex rendering". There is no point creating a new image for each and every script that has that template on.

Unless you have a good reason, please don't remove the template. The reason it is there is to stop people changing Indic text so that it comes up incorrect on properly enabled computers.

[edit] Can you explain

Hey there Sumanthk. I'm not sure exactly what you meant when you reverted my edits to Hyderabad (India) but said in the summary you had "reverted edits by 61.246.49.141". Moriori 08:34, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

My intention was to revert the edits made by 61.246.49.141 stating that "Urdu is the prinicipal language". I suppose your corrections were based on the edits by 61.246.49.141.
OK. Edict conflict I guess. Do you think it would be better for you to edit my changes, or for me to come back tomorrow and edit your changes?, Please reply here. It is much simpler to have all conversation on the same talk page. Cheers. Moriori 09:25, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
Its done. I have edited your changes (removed the changes made by 61.246.49.141 from your version).I hope thats OK.
Sorry, thought you guys were having a revert war :) --hydkat 09:30, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Andhra Pradesh cleanup

Hi. Sorry to have given you so much work to do. It was actually me who added the category to a few Andhra Pradesh politician articles that I created. As I will be creating more articles soon, can you tell me which category would be more suitable? Also, if you are from Andhra Pradesh (or you know the popular names/spellings of some of these MPs), can you create redirects from appropriate names to these bios? Thanks. - Aksi_great (talk) 19:31, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion

I noticed that you tagged the page List of Ayurvedic Medicaments for speedy deletion with the reason "More appropraite info is present in the articles Ayurveda and List of herbs and minerals in Ayurveda". However, "More appropraite info is present in the articles Ayurveda and List of herbs and minerals in Ayurveda" is not currently one of our criteria for speedy deletion, so I have removed the speedy deletion tag. You can use Wikipedia:Articles for deletion if you still want the article to be deleted. Thanks! Stifle (talk) 13:23, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome to WikiProject India

Welcome!

Hi, and welcome to the India WikiProject! We're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of India.

A few features that you might find helpful:

There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:

  • Want to know how good our articles are? The assessment department is working on rating the quality of every India article in Wikipedia.
  • Can you code? The automation department uses automated and semi-automated methods to perform batch tasks that would be tedious to do manually.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask another fellow member, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! -- Lost(talk) 07:48, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

  • Cartography Department (Shortcut:WP:INMAP): The Department of Cartography within the WikiProject India is a group of wikipedians who work on providing quality maps related to India. Their contributions gain more significance as we try to provide more information on places, districts and states of India. As a thumb rule, maps serve better if they are in SVG format. The location maps by the cartography department has helped us include location information based on latitudes and longitudes for a give place within India. The Indian Roadways map is a featured image, one amongst the few best road maps in the world. Still, there is more work to be done. There are 604 districts in India (see List of districts of India), and each district page needs a map of that district. You can help too. Contact the Cartography Department to learn how you can help in making the best maps in Wikipedia to be India-related!

[edit] WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume I, Issue 3 - December 2006

Project News
  • Name change of cities in Karnataka: A straw poll was conducted on the proposal to change the name of cities in Karnataka, per the Nov 1, 2006 decision by the Karnataka government to rename them from the current anglicised forms. The result of the poll was to change the names. As controversial as the decision may be in the real world, the article Bangalore in Wikipedia still reflects the old name. You may be interested in knowing why. Dig the archives.
  • New Project Noticeboard (Shortcut:WP:INB): WikiProject India now sports a new colourful centralised noticeboard. An effort to make the noticeboard current and dynamic was mooted a few days back, and Ganeshk came up with the new format. The new noticeboard will strive to be the one-stop shop for all project related information. The shortcut is WP:INB.
  • Members List: The old members list is being phased out to give way for the new members list. New members are requested to add their names to the new members list. As the newsletter grows, further issues of the Project Newsletter will be delivered to those enlisted in the new list. So dash down now, to check if ur name is in there.

[edit] WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume II, Issue 1 - January 2007

Project News
  • Project tagging:After a brief edit war over the addition of {{WP India}} to ancient archaeological sites now located in Pakistan, a "pre" parameter was introduced to remove the ROI flag from the template for pre-1947 articles, following discussion. After another large discussion on ANI alleging that the automated tagging by Ganeshbot and LostBot was "nationalistic", Ganeshbot was briefly blocked. Currently, the bots are again in action.
  • Swastika on Hinduism templates:Recently, an extremely large and at times emotional debate broke out regarding the use of the swastika on Hinduism templates, given its association with Nazism. As a result, {{Hindu Links}} now contains an educational message about the use of the swastika, as discussion on a more permanent resolution continues.

[edit] Mandals in Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam

Dear Sumanth, Thank you for creating the mandals in Vizianagaram district. I have nearly completed some basic information about these mandals. Can you help me creating the mandals in Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam districts also. It will make my work easier. Thank you once again.

DR. A. RAJASEKHAR National Pathology Laboratory.

[edit] Its not a POV

I think there are much needed referenced sources in discussion page. Everyone knows what Karunanidhi or Tamils have done to South Karnataka.Have you ever seen such a policy of giving water to increase irrigation to neighbour and not its own. Now all the injustice have to put forth and you are no one to balance out on wiki. Put your stand in discussion else keep quiet.122.167.14.191 12:09, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

It is clearly a case of POV. Every argument has two sides. Sentences like "Tribunal sadly ignored the needs of the farmers and gave in to politics" and "The issue of river sharing is highly unscientific as Tamil Nadu disputes for its prescriptive rights" do not find a place in any encyclopedia. They are not a bunch of idiots to blatantly give a verdict in favor of Tamil Nadu. Even if your argument is partially true it should presented in formal language. --(Sumanth|Talk) 12:16, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Srikakulam location on Map

Dear Sumanth, Thank You very much, for helping me. There is a small problem giving rise to confusion. There is Srikakulam village in Ghantasala mandal, Krishna District. There is also Srikakulam district in the north eastern most part of Andhra Pradesh. Can you clearly separate them by some method. The person created the Geographic data in Srikakulam (district) had given the link of Srikakulam village. The map clearly shows the location wrongly. There must be some method to make a distinction.

Yours friendly

DR. A. RAJASEKHAR

[edit] Mandals in Srikakulam district

Dear Sumanth, There is another serious error in this new creation on Mandals in Srikakulam district. You have taken data from the Ministry of Panchayatraj. They have listed the intermediate panchayats and village panchayats. The intermediate panchayat and mandal are completely different. Please use the list in APonline of Srikakulam district, which gave the correct list of Revenue mandals of Srikakulam district. Please make this correction urgently.

Yours friendly,

DR. A. RAJASEKHAR

[edit] External links in cuisine page

I read your comments about adding external link to a cuisine page. Ok you read about indian cuisine on wikipedia but where do you find the food? As you said, these links do not enhance the ranking, and the site does not gain anything when a visitor views it no matter from where. I have added the link purely as an information to know where one can find a place to eat the food that one has learnt about. Wikipedia can in no way provide this information. It has been added under relevant article and i feel that it serves a valuable purpose. If wiki editors feel that this is voilation of policy, i sincerely suggest that the policy should be changed to allow links to sites (even if they are commercial)which help a visitor in getting information that is useful to him or her.

[edit] Sumibot

I was following your bot on Indian cities project page. It is interesting that you can create articles using AWB. I should give it a try sometime. I had written a similar bot that created Indian town articles based on Census data. It used the Python Wikipedia framework. I wanted to ask is there way that you can find geo-coordinates and add a map to the articles. A site like fallingrain.com can help. Not sure they store coords for taluks and villages. I can send you the Python code if you would like. May be Sumibot could be improved to include more detail in the article. Let me know. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 17:52, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

I should say your bot sort of inspired me to create articles about villages/towns in India. I didn't know how to write a bot, so I configured my AWB to do this. We can definitely try Python Wikipedia framework if it is better that AWB. At present I don't have an iota of knowledge about that. Could you explain how it would work? Is it fully automated? (unlike AWB which would need some manual intervention) --(Sumanth|Talk) 05:19, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
It is a python program that will run in its client window (install latest version from python.org). It is fully automated, it traverses a text file and creates articles. It searches the town name on the fallingrain website to capture latitude, longitude and elevation. I was thinking your bot could do the same too. Send me a e-mail, I will reply back with the source-code. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 05:17, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
I have sent you the bot code. Let me know if you have any questions. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 20:31, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. I hope I find time to try that soon. --(Sumanth|Talk) 06:57, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Villages in Telugu wikipedia

Dear Sumanth,

Wish you many happy telugu new year greetings. I have seen the andhra pradesh telugu wikipedia. There are too many village pages leading to confusion of same name existing in multiple locations. May be it is better we list the villages at mandal level and leave there. Creating an individual page for each village is the cause of confusion. Can you solve this problem in discussion with the other people interested in Andhra Pradesh data correction.

I think it is ok to have pages for each village in Andhra Pradesh. We can name the village based on the Mandal and just create disambiguation page. See this example in telugu wikipedia. --(Sumanth|Talk) 07:30, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

I want to know how to access the images in wikipedia. The mandal diagram in A.P.Government e-seva site is very good. Since it is in public domain, can we use this image in wikipedia. Otherwise Image:viziangaram mandals.png in te.wikipedia be used in english language.

You just need to upload the image with a proper name and use it. I think we can use the images in A.P govt website. Please see WP:IMAGE for details about image usage. --(Sumanth|Talk) 07:30, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

I have done a mistake by creating Sangam in Vizianagaram. In fact it is in Srikakulam district. I do not know how to correct the mistake.

You can move the page to apporpriate title and place the template {{delete|reason}} on the old page. Some admin will delete the page. --(Sumanth|Talk) 07:30, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you.

Dear Sumanth, I have prepared the Andhra Medical College and most of the information. I have the image of the college logo. The college is started in 1923. Hence can I attach the image to this site. Does it violate the copyright regulations. Kindly clarify this doubt in my mind.
