[edit] Edit summaries
It has been noticed that you have been making edits to Wikipedia without entering an edit summary. Edit summaries are short descriptions of your edits and the reason for them. We appreciate your effort, but would like to ask you to always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making major or subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers.
[edit] Why is entering an edit summary important?
Your edit summary shows other Wikipedians why you thought an edit was important or necessary. When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted. The summary you enter will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are keeping an eye on that article. If you need to enter more information or want to discuss your or others' edits, you can do this on the article's Talk page (click "discussion" at the top of the page). References to sources can be added to the main article.
[edit] How to enter an edit summary
When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small input field labelled "Edit summary" right below the main edit box. It looks like this:
See Wikipedia:Edit summary for more information on this feature. Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia.
