Summerfield United Methodist Church

Summerfield United Methodist Church is located in the historic Juneautown neighborhood of downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The church is part of the United Methodist Church (UMC) and is known for having established several community institutions.

Summerfield's original congregation formed in 1852. By 1857 the congregation moved to Kilbourn Avenue & Van Buren Street and was named Summerfield in honor of Reverend John Summerfield. A home for the aged called the Milwaukee Protestant Home was established at this location in 1884 and the Methodist Manor in 1890. Goodwill Industries of Wisconsin was later founded in the basement of the present church in 1919.
The current church building was built in 1904 for First Community Church on the corner of Cass Street & Juneau Avenue. First Community merged with Summerfield in 1929 and the resulting congregation occupied this structure. The gothic church, with its 73 foot tall bell tower, was constructed using sandstone and limestone.
