Summer Mile Stakes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Summer Mile Stakes is a Group 2 flat horse race in the United Kingdom for four-year-old and above thoroughbreds run over a distance of 1 mile at Ascot Racecourse in July.
The race is currently sponsored by Sony, and will be run as a Group 2 race for the first time in 2007, having held Group 3 status since 2003. Prior to this it was classed as a Listed race. Until 2005 the race was known as the Silver Trophy Stakes.
When it was temporarily transferred to the all-weather track at Lingfield Park in 2005, it became the first British Pattern race to be run on a non-turf course. This was followed by the newly upgraded Winter Derby in March 2006.
After a second year at Lingfield, the race returns to Ascot in 2007.
