Sum 41's 5th studio album is their first release without former (Half Hour Of Power, All Killer No Filler, Does This Look Infected?, and Chuck) guitarist Dave Baksh. Like all of the band's previous albums to date, it will be released under the Island Records label, and will be distributed worldwide by Universal Records and in Canada by Aquarius Records. According to bassist Jason "Cone" McCaslin the album is due out during the summer of 2007, with the new single hopefully to be released at the end of April '07.

Apparently the musical style will follow the trend of the albums All Killer No Filler and Does This Look Infected?, but will also draw in some influences from the heavier style as found in Chuck. The band will record 19-20 songs, and the album will contain from 12 to 14 tracks, with the rest being released as b-sides.

The drummer for Sum 41, Steve Jocz hinted that the band will experiment with odd time signatures on some of the new tracks.

The new, greatly anticipated album is predicted to be their best yet. After losing Dave, the band went away and had a "serious think" about where they wanted the band to go. With a new focus, the dedicated members of the band are reported to have put all their effort into making this album the best it can be. With Deryck Whibleys recent marriage to the Canadian pop-punk Princess Avril Lavigne, he has found a new busrt of energy inspiration and to put into their music.

The album recording started November 6th, 2006 as is announced in their MySpace:

Today is the day we officially start recording the album. Monday Nov the 6th. Up until now we've been rehearsing all the new songs. I wrote about 19 songs that we are going to record over the next 3 months. There will probably be 12 to 14 songs on the record, and we will use the others for bonus tracks, b-sides, movie soundtrack songs, etc. I have also decided to produce this album myself, and the reason i chose to do this is because i feel that i understand the vision of the songs the most since i wrote them all. I also have 1 of the best drummers in modern music with an amazing bass player in the band which makes my job a lot easier. They're great and I couldn't ask for a better band to play with. We're going to take our time recording this album. In January when we're done recording these songs, we will listen to what we have and decide if we're ready to put it out or record some more. We will have updates here (their myspace) and at sum41.com [1] as regularly as possible to let everyone know the progress of the record. Thanks to all our fans for your support, we really appreciate it. See you all soon and i can't wait for you guys to hear this new record!

Deryck Whibley

On a MTV interview Deryck said that "We realized that we needed to be a band again. Because ever since All Killer, No Filler, we honestly weren't a band. We were a machine." and later stated that "We're drawing from everything we did well on All Killer and Does This Look Infected? and not so much from Chuck".

Almost all information regarding the album has been released through the Sum 41 Question & Answer section in their website.

On 102.1 the Edge, Stevo annouced that the album is tentatively due out June 2007, with a single around April.

The album will contain 14 tracks, but only 12 songs. One of the non-song tracks is confirmed to be a lounge-ish song where Deryck sings in french. The other non-song is speculated to be an intro or a joke track.

Deryck confirmed in the Q&A section that he used the chorus from "Subject To Change" (bonus track on Chuck) again, he changed it here and there and commented that "it sounds fucking awesome".
