Suicide barrier

The Luminous Veil on Toronto's Prince Edward Viaduct prevents jumps

A suicide barrier is a barrier on a bridge (often a so-called suicide bridge known for suicide attempts) or other tall structure designed to prevent people from attempting suicide by deliberately jumping.

Comprehensive suicide barriers can be very expensive -- a proposed barrier on the Golden Gate Bridge has an estimate cost of $25 million. [1] Other problems are aesthetic – heavy fences are often unsightly, detracting from the appearance of the bridge and the view from the bridge itelf.
