My parternal grandfather served as a guard at Sugamo Prison after the war, and had met Tojo at the prison. He managed to speak with Tojo for a few minutes. Grandpa also witnessed the execution of Japanese war criminals while there.

I was stationed at Sugamo for over three years (1947 - 1950) and your article is misleading if not inaccurate. Althought the major war criminals (only 25 men) went to trial by the IMTFE (International Military Tribunal for the Far East) about two thousand others were incarcerated at Sugamo (including women) and they went to a different trial altogether.

Secondly, the prison was certainly not operated by Japanese personnel and supervised by the Americans, at least not when I was there. Several hundred of the American soldiers were sent into Korea at the outbreak of the Korean conflict so I cannot speak of what happened then.

I belong to a group of men who were assigned to the prison and anything I have written may be verified by them.
