[edit] Early careers

All three members were well-known members of Atlanta's folk/acoustic/rock scene in the 1990s and early 2000s.

They played frequently at Eddie's Attic in Decatur, Georgia, which Nettles' husband owned for a time. Nettles graduated from Agnes Scott College in Decatur, and played with Soul Miner's Daughter (the name is an allusion to her father's occupation as a minister). Bush was half of the folk-rock duo Billy Pilgrim, and Hall had a solo career that often crossed paths with the Indigo Girls.

[edit] Sugarland success

Sugarland has received more mainstream national attention than any of the three members had as solo performers.

The group released four singles from Twice the Speed of Life: "Baby Girl," "Something More," "Just Might (Make Me Believe)," and "Down In Mississippi (Up To No Good)". A fifth track, "Stand Back Up", received significant play as an album cut, and thus reached the lower regions of the charts. The group's first album, Twice the Speed of Life, has sold over 2 million copies, earning it a 2x platinum designation.

In late 2005, the band performed with Bon Jovi on Country Music Television's musical fusion show, Crossroads; Nettles sang with Bon Jovi on their single, "Who Says You Can't Go Home." (The song later went on to become a #1 on the country charts.) They toured the United States and Canada performing with Brad Paisley in 2005 and in 2006 with Brooks and Dunn. They were nominated for the Best New Artist Grammy and performed the song "Something More" at the 48th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2006.

Sugarland performed at the 2006 CMT Music Awards with bassist Annie Clements. There, they received multiple nominations including Group/Duo Video of the Year for "Just Might (Make Me Believe)," Breakthrough Video of the Year for "Something More," and Collaborative Video of the Year for "Who Says You Can't Go Home."[1]

[edit] Trio becomes duo

On January 17, 2006, Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush released a statement on the official Sugarland website stating that "Kristen [Hall] has decided that she wants to stay home and write songs, and we support her in that decision."

[edit] Enjoy the Ride

Sugarland released a new album on November 7, 2006 entitled Enjoy the Ride. The set sold 211,000 during its first week and opened at #4 on the US Top 200 and at #2 on the Country Chart.

Prior to its release, the duo released a lead single for their sophomore album entitled "Want To." The song became the duo's first #1, spending two weeks there. The second single from the album, "Settlin'", is currently active on the charts. The video for the single was shot outside of Atlanta, Georgia, in early November. The shoot featured 461 extras, rollaway walls, and a large rotating platform.

"Settlin'" was used as the theme song for the 2007 ACC Men's Basketball Tournament during Raycom Sports' coverage of the event.
