Sugar Ray Seales

Sugar Ray Seales, born in the Virgin Islands on April 9, 1952, was the only American boxer to win a gold medal in the 1972 Olympics.

He was a contender for the Middleweight title during the late 70's and early 80's. In 1980, he injured his eye in a fight with Jaime Thomas. He had torn his retina, and gradually went blind. Seales was forced to retire in 1983 because of his injury. Currently, he works with autistic students at Lincoln High School in Tacoma.
