Succession Wars

Succession Wars is the general title of several European wars which arose in the 18th century consequent on a failure of issue in certain royal lines, most important of which are

• War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1713)
• War of the Austrian Succession (1740-1748)

Two others in this category are

• War of the Polish Succession (1733-1738)
• War of the Bavarian Succession (1778-1779)

Sometimes included in this category is the

• War of the English Succession, which is more commonly called the War of the Grand Alliance or the War of the League of Augsburg (1688–1697).
