Sin and Punishment: Successor of the Earth (罪と罰 ~地球の継承者~ Tsumi to Batsu: Chikyū no Keishōsha) is a video game by Treasure Co. Ltd, released in 2000 and distributed by Nintendo. The game was only released for the Nintendo 64 in Japan in 2000 and the iQue in China in 2004. Similar to Treasure's Radiant Silvergun, the limited print run and high import demand combine to make it a rare and highly sought-after title.
A strange fact about this game is that it has extensive voice acting in English, but subtitled in Japanese. Because of this and it's rarity, it is one of the most requested Wii Virtual Console games.
[edit] Gameplay
The game is essentially a rail shooter. Forward progress through the levels is automatic; the player's job is to aim and fire at enemies, and sidestep, roll, jump, or double-jump to avoid enemy attacks and obstacles.
The player can switch between manual (red targeting reticle) and lock-on (purple targeting reticle) firing modes at any time. Lock-on mode "sticks" the reticle to enemies but is less damaging than manually aimed fire. The player can also attack using a powerful energy sword by tapping the fire button when enemies or certain types of projectiles are within close range; projectiles struck in this manner are bounced back at the enemy and inflict great damage. While the player attacks enemies, a timer at the top of the screen counts down, when the timer hits Zero , the player gradually loses more and more life until he/she dies.
[edit] Characters
- Saki Amamiya: Main protagonist of the game, leading an attack against the bio-organic alien monsters known as "Ruffians" and also fighting rampant soldier groups, he uses a two-in-one weapon which is a Dolphin Gun and a Night Stick in order to conquer enemies.
- Airan Jo: The secondary protagonist and female lead of the game. She fights with Saki. During a time when Saki turned into a Ruffian, the player plays as her.
- Achi: A girl with strange powers. The major powers she has are those of psychokinesis and teleportation. She can pass these powers via blood transfusion.
- Brad: A figure of authority in the US Army. He has Achi's blood inside him, although the story behind this is unknown. He wields a sword-gun similar to those used by the protagonists.
- Katchua: A female scientist and Brad's fiance. Katchua is the only female to remain human after Brad gave her his blood (most transformed into Ruffians, some losing control over themselves); however, after a fight with Saki, she transformed as well (along with Saki) and was lost.
