[edit] Article split

Shouldn't this article be split into two seperate articles?

I think it would be best to split into subtitle and subtitles (with disambiguating hatnotes at the top of both) as one is almost exclusively used in the singular and one in the plural.

The alternative is splitting it into subtitle (film) (or subtitle (movie) or something) and subtitle (work)/subtitle (book)/subtitle (title). This I find this less satisfactory as both sorts of subtitles can apply to films and TV series.

As long as the article starts as it does, i.e. by briefly explaining the two different meanings, I don't think there is a need to split it, even if the article grows. The film and TV meaning of the expression may grow a lot, but I don't think there is much more to add to the "title/subtitle" part (unless people start adding hundrededs of meaningless examples in the all too common Wikipedia list mania).Thomas Blomberg 15:56, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

I'm a Wikipedia novice, but would recommend a split thus: subtitle (captioning) and subtitle (titling) - or maybe scrapping the latter and leaving it to the Wiktionary as there doesn't seem to be anything too encyclopaedic about the entry. Orfy

Nobody seems to have very strong feelings bout the suggested split, so I'll remove the tag, as it's been there for a month and a half. Thomas Blomberg 20:56, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
As this dialog seems to be hanging for a lot of time (half a year?), and I'm strongly supporting splitting and DBA page, I've done it. Please look for the results and tell your opinions. --GreyCat 19:48, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
