Subway menu

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Main article: Subway (restaurant)

Subway menus differ from store to store based on a few factors. Most of the items sold on the menu are "core" items, and must be offered by every Subway. Subway, like other fast-food restaurants also offers limited time offers or LTO from time to time. As of March 2006, Subway is offering the Chicken BLT sub as an LTO. Each Subway market may also vote to have additional sub(s) or ingredient(s) as an option. Additionally, an individual store (or group of stores owned by an individual franchisee) may choose to carry a few "local" subs or ingredients, but Subway limits the amount of non-standard items they may carry.

The country or part of the world that a store is located may also dictate what is on the menu at any given Subway. For example, turkey is a component of many subs in North America and Europe, but turkey is uncommon in some parts of the world, such as Africa or Asia, so chicken is often substituted. In the Muslim countries of the Middle East, subs made with pork are not on the menu. In India subs made with beef are not on the Subway menu.

Subways located in Wal-Mart stores offer additional items that are not usually found on the Subway menu, including: Icee's, pretzels, nachos, hot dogs, and popcorn.

[edit] Sub of the Day / Daily Special

The "Sub of the Day" is a phrase and promotion developed by TUKI, the advertising body representing Subway franchisees in the UK and Ireland. Similar promotions had previously found success in other countries, and following the huge success of the UK and Ireland promotion, the "Sub of the Day" offer and branding is now being rolled out worldwide.

Most Subway restaurants offer a "Sub of the Day" (also known as the Daily Special) where a particular 6" sandwich can be purchased for $2.99/£1.99 each. Alternatively, some offer a footlong sub for $4.29/£3.79. It is not available at all restaurants, and is usually done on a local market-wide basis. The selection of daily specials offered on any given day of the week varies by market, although almost all markets that offer this promotion offer Tuna Mayonnaise on Friday. Many restaurants, including all those in the United Kingdom also offer the "Sub of the Day Deal", which includes a 6" Sub of the Day, chips, and a drink.

Many Subway restaurants offer additional specials like 4 six inch subs for $11.99 after 4p.m. and all day Sunday.

In the United Kingdom, the Sub of the Day is available at all stores, priced at £1.99 for a six inch sub. A number of adverts are currently featured on television about the sub of the day. In Australia, Sub of the Day was offered for a limited time late during 2006 at all restaurants for $3.50.

While there may be slight variations between territories, the "Sub of the Day" menu in the United Kingdom (and the U.S.A. except on Sunday which is Roast Chicken Breast) is generally as follows:

Monday - 6" (15 cm) Savoury Turkey Breast & Ham
Tuesday - 6" (15 cm) Meatball Marinara
Wednesday - 6" (15 cm) Savoury Turkey Breast
Thursday - 6" (15 cm) Italian BMT
Friday - 6" (15 cm) Classic Tuna
Saturday - 6" (15 cm) Roast Beef
Sunday - 6" (15 cm) Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki

[edit] Deli (round) sandwiches

These sandwiches can come with the Subway Kids Pak (which includes the sandwich, a juice box (or soft drink), a fruit roll-up (or cookie), and a toy), or can be purchased on their own. All come with or without cheese, and salads offered in the store on request. The selection includes:

  • Turkey
  • Ham
  • Roast Beef
  • Cheese
  • Tuna
  • Pizza

Some Subways may offer a local deli sandwich (such as peanut butter and jelly.)

It is a rule in most Subway restaurants, that Kids' Subs are only available to 9 year-olds and younger (presumably to stop people cutting corners and not paying full), however, this rule is not usually enforced (also presumably because, a parent may be purchasing for their child at home).

As of March 12th, 2007, the Deli program was discontinued in the US. Offered instead is a four-inch mini sub, a more health-concious option, as the customer can choose either Italian or Wheat bread. Regular Deli prices still apply.

As of the same time, replacing the Kid's Pak is the Subway Fresh Fit meal for Kids. Selections for this new meal include:

  • The Mini Sub
  • A Cookie, Apple Slices or Raisins
  • Regular Milk, Chocolate Milk, a Juice box or Small Soda (at participating locations)

The Fresh Fit meal for Kids strives to meet with the standards that the American Heart Association sets for a healthy lifestyle, offering these sides and better drinks.

[edit] Salads and Wraps

Subway can make any 6-inch selection into either a Salad Bowl or low-carb Wrap. It usually costs no extra to change it to a wrap, or 50p to upgrade to a Salad Bowl.

[edit] Breakfast Menu

Many Subway restaurants serve a breakfast menu, which is available before 11am in addition to the standard menu. Breakfast sandwiches are served on Deli Rolls (the same as those used for the Kids Pak ), although many restaurants will also offer 6" breads and wraps at the customer's request. Some restaurants may also offer the "Expanded Breakfast Program", which includes items such as French Toast and Omelets.

The standard Subway breakfast menu includes:

  • Cheese and Egg
  • Bacon and Egg
  • Ham and Egg
  • Western Egg (Ham, egg, tomatoes, green peppers, onions)
  • Steak and Egg

Some restaurants may also offer:

  • Sausage and Egg
  • 6" Mega Breakfast (Sausage, bacon, egg, cheese, tomatoes, HP Sauce or Ketchup)

Some stores also offer the option of feta cheese and in addition, Parmesan cheese is offered, mainly as a condiment for meatball subs.. All other countries may vary. [edit] Other Subway Items

Subway is always testing various menu items at various locations around the world. They also allow expanded menu items and co-branding (such as with TCBY) to increase the menu selection.

During the Australian winter in 2006, Heinz Soup was offered at $3.00 per serve, or $3.50 with a deli roll. There were three flavours:

  • Creamy Pumpkin
  • Country Chicken
  • Pea and Ham

Also, several Subways in the Manchester area in the North West of England have applied for a license to serve alcohol. As of November 2006 however, this application has yet to be successful. Currently, some Subway locations in Russia serve beer.

[edit] Notes

  1. ^ a b Halal and kosher Subways have no pork products, ham, or bacon. Kosher Subways have no dairy products, though some have soy cheese.
  2. ^ The "Italian B.M.T." sandwich was originally named after the Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit Corporation in New York City. Its name has evolved to unofficially stand for "Biggest, Meatiest, Tastiest" and it has also been referred to as the Big Meat Trio.
  3. ^ While McDonald's and Burger King deep fry their chicken, Subway does not. This is most likely because Subway tries to be seen as a health-conscious restaurant.
  4. ^ In Autumn 2006, the Veggie Patty Sub was withdrawn from sale in the UK due to a quality control issue. It has since returned to the menu, accompanied by a relaunch campaign of in-store advertising.
