Su Tong

Su Tong (Simplified Chinese: 苏童; Traditional Chinese: 蘇童; pinyin: Sū Tóng) (born 1963) is the pen name of a Mainland Chinese writer born in Suzhou and now based in Nanjing. His best known work in the West is the 1990 novella which bears the English title "Raise the Red Lantern" and was turned into a movie of the same name by director Zhang Yimou.

His other works available in English translation are "Rice" and "My Life as Emperor" (both tr. Howard Goldblatt).
