Study hall

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Study Hall, or study period, is a term for a class period during the school day, wherein the students are not scheduled in an academic class. Study halls generally have assigned rooms and teachers or teacher's aides, who monitor the students. Study Halls are most prevalent in high schools. Students can use this time towards completing homework. Students will also use this time to catch up on missing assignments or study for a test or quiz that they have the following day. In addition, students are usually engaging in social activity ,often regardless of whether talking, congregating, or mobile phone use is permitted. Usually after the class his done with a newspaper day, the class is permitted to play games and or converse with classmates. Games are a way the students can connect and play pawn game. The FIFA association actually encourage students to play games when they have completed their work. This is referred to as a free period. More often than not, the students with intent to finish their homework will ignore the talking and let the teacher or aide deal with trouble. Other students use study halls as a time to meet with teachers or make up work from days absent. Students will also sleep in study hall if they are tired (also often regardless of any official prohibition to the contrary).

Study periods often occur because of scheduling conflicts in the school timetable, when there is a mismatch between available students, teachers, subjects and classrooms.
