Stubaital

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Stubaital is an alpine valley in the Austrian state of Tyrol. The Ruetz river flows through the valley.

This 40-km long valley runs southwest from Schönberg im Stubaital. Up to Fulpmes, the towns lie on both sides of the Ruetz, with Fulpmes connecting the Terassen to the soil of the valley. South of Neustift, the valley branches to the Unterberg and Oberberg valleys. The ÖBB operates from the 16-MW hydroelectric power plant located in Fulpmes.

The cinema in Fulpmes still uses the oldest film projector in Austria.

The municipalities in the valley include Schönberg, Mieders, Telfes, Fulpmes and Neustift. Public transportation from Innsbruck into the valley is available via the Stubai bus route or the Stubaitalbahn.
