[edit] Introduction

Stuart Woods is an American writer whose works mostly belong to the genre of suspense fiction. His novels are more versatile than those of other crime fiction authors. Most of them have a more interesting twist and have been described as, "offbeat thrillers with a wicked sense of humor." His popular character "Stone Barrington" is a former N.Y.P.D. detective, turned lawyer, who is of counsel to a prestigious law firm, which employs him to handle cases that they do not wish to be seen to be associated with. He also has a number of other continuing characters who are nearly as popular with his readers as Barrington.

Woods is prolific, having written thirty-six novels in a twenty-five year career; he usually writes two novels a year and is increasing that to three novels a year, at the request of his publishers. He has also written two non-fiction books: a travel book and a memoir, which describes a two-year period in his life when he sailed alone across the Atlantic in a 30-foot yacht.

He is also a pilot, flying his own single-engine turboprop airplane on two book tours a year, and he has one of the new very light jets on order.

He describes himself as a "born-again bachelor" and lives in Key West, Florida, Mt. Desert Island, Maine and in New York City. He maintains a detailed website at stuartwoods.com [1] which features an interview with the author and a biography, and allows his readers to correspond with him.
