Stuart Robson (speedway rider)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stuart Anthony Robson is a British motorcycle speedway rider. He was born in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear on the 8th November 1976 to Irene & John Robson. One of three children, one sister Shelly and one brother (no stranger to Rye House fans) Scott. Stuart along with Scott, started riding from an early age following in his Dad's footsteps, John himself being a former Speedway Rider at Sunderland.
Stuart made his British racing debut in 1993 riding for the Newcastle Diamonds and in 32 matches he posted an average of 4.35. The following season was again with the Diamonds where he averaged just under 5 points followed by a switch to Coventry in 1995 where he was an ever-present and posted figures of 5.31. His 1996 season was split between Coventry and Middlesbrough while in 1997 he joined brother Scott as a Hull Viking on Humberside. The following season he returned to the top flight riding once again for Coventry in the Elite League where he spent four seasons as a five-point averaged rider before a big year in 2003 where he pushed his average for the Bees up to just under seven points from an ever-present 47 matches. He also doubled-down with the Newcastle Diamonds in 2003 achieving an 8.76 average from 25 matches. After spending the 2004 season again in the top-flight with the Coventry Bees Stuart celebrated his Testimonial year at Brandon. Stuart managed to notch an incredible 354 matches for the Bees equating to 1525 rides scoring 1816 points and a further 313 bonus points.
The end of the 2004 campaign saw Stuart take a gamble and move to the Premier League outfit, the Rye House Rockets on a full transfer. Stuart proved to be a hit with the fans just like his brother did, Scott Robson did for the Rocket the three seasons prior. His all action style produced some of the most memorable heats during the Championship and Cup winning 2005 season, who could forget Stuart starting 15 metres back against the Isle of Wight only then to come past everyone and take the heat win!
Robbo is returning to Rye for a third term. Hopefully luck will be on Stuarts side for 2007, after returning to racing in September 2006 after two huge accidents in less than a year. Stuart has been building on his fitness for the forthcoming campaign and has kept himself busy at the gym, moutain biking and motocrossing.
