Stuart Leslie Braithwaite (born 10 May 1976) is the lead member of the Glaswegian post-rock band Mogwai. He mainly plays electric guitar, and sometimes sings.

He grew up listening to records by The Cure, Joy Division, The Stooges, The Velvet Underground, Black Sabbath, and many other artists. He went to Music College at one point, playing the guitar solo from "Another Girl, Another Planet" by The Only Ones to get in.

Stuart met Dominic Aitchison at a Ned's Atomic Dustbin concert at the Glasgow QMU on 10 April 1991, and four years later, they formed Mogwai.

[edit] Deadcat Motorbike
Before playing in Mogwai, Stuart played guitar and sang in a band called Deadcat Motorbike, who played their last show at the old 13th Note bar in Glasgow, in June 1995. It was also around this time that Stuart drummed for a band called Eska.

In 2000, he played with a band called Mighty Joe Young Trio, who played at least one show.

In 2000 and 20002, Stuart performed a few solo acoustic shows.

In 2002, Stuart, Aidan Moffat (a good friend of Stuart's) and Colin "Sheepy" McPherson released an eponymously titled EP under the name "The Sick Anchors".

Stuart currently lives in Glasgow with his wife, music executive Grainne Braithwaite and their two dogs, Princess and Rambo.
