[edit] Central Asia

Hi, I'm trying to start some sort of working group to improve the coverage of Central Asia and related topics in Wikipedia. Leave a message on my userpage if you're interested. Aelfthrytha 03:03, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] woot linguists :)

Hey. Very impressive set of Babel boxes you've got there! :)

I've got a query, maybe you can help me out. I'm interested in maybe teaching myself some Uyghur. I've done some undergrad linguistics and beginner/intermediate Mandarin but when I sat down to look at the Uyghur Arabic script I was just like... whoa. I can't even parse it into individual characters. (At least Chinese characters are pretty well defined, where they start and end at least.) Although from your website it doesn't look like you have any personal experience with Uyghur, I was wondering if you might be able to throw some general Turkic-language-learning tips my way. And if you have any thoughts on which scripts are desirable to learn - all 3 simultaneously? not Cyrillic?

cheers, pfctdayelise (translate?) 16:10, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Karakalpak

Why did you choose to delete Karakalpak language from the list on the wikiproject page? It seems like the article could still use some expanding. Aelfthrytha 22:15, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Good point...I put it back on there. I guess it's no longer a stub, but it definitely needs further work.Straughn 14:52, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dance capitalization

I noticed that you listed yourself as a linguist. There is currently a dispute at the Lindy Hop article the Dance WikiProject about the capitalization of dances that could use the expertise of a linguist. If you think you might be able to help, we would certainly appreciate your comments. Thanks! --Cswrye 05:26, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Hmm... not exactly a linguistics problem. I can't say I have much of an opinion either way. Straughn 13:45, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cypriot Turkish dialect

Hi, as a Turkish Cypriot i was pleased with the article you created. You may be interested in these links: http://www.cypnet.co.uk/ncyprus/people/cypturks/language.html - a list of words different between Cypriot and mainland Turkish.

Here is also a database of Turkish Cypriot idioms: http://www.stwing.upenn.edu/~durduran/cgi-bin/deyim/index.shtml. Unfortunately neither website provides a English translation for the words or idioms. Feel free to include them on the article if you wish. --A.Garnet 11:24, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Yerzhan Ashykbayev

Hi, if you have the time I would like your input on whether to delete the article on Yerzhan Ashykbayev, the Foreign Ministry spokesman of the Government of Kazakhstan. Thanks, KazakhPol 18:36, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! However, please note that Ashykbayev is only the spokesman of the Foreign Ministry. The Foreign Minister is Kasymzhomart Tokayev. KazakhPol 19:41, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
