Talk:Street jumping
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Street Jumping is a North American term for Free Running. The reason for the change in name is mainly because in North American there are less broken down and abandoned areas as in former U.S.S.R. countries, such as Russia. As a result, Street Jumpers do less running, and more jumping over various obstacles, such as fences, public trash cans, Postal boxes, ect.
It is widely believed that Street Jumping, or Free Running, has been practiced long before it was introduced by Sebastien Foucan. All over the world, children and teens would go to great lengths to pass obstacles in the fastest and, in this case, most interesting way. This was never internationally recognized, but it was practiced in cities around the globe.
Street Jumping is a North Americanized form of Free Running, which in turn is a more relaxed and aesthetics form of Parkour. Some might even argue that it is just a more developed and extreme version of the popular game "Cops and Robbers".
Although very similar, Street Jumping is to Free Running, what Free Running is to Parkour. I don't think that both articles should be merged, as the term "Free Running" is not as widely know or used in some regions of North America, especially Canada. They are different, and, as a result they both deserve different articles.
