Light Novel

Isn't that based on Light Novel ? ≈# —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 212.179.145.80 (talk • contribs) 13:43, 6 May 2006 (UTC).

I'm fairly certain the anime was based off of the manga that came before it, but if you can prove it came from a Light Novel series, then by all means, show it.--Juhachi 21:13, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

Episode Names

I've placed the Japanese names of each episode into the episode section. I presume that the translations are unofficial? If they are, could someone tag it so and change the column header from 'Translation' to 'Unofficial Translation'? -- Remy Suen 10:58, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Ah, I just noticed this section. Those translations are the ones I found at Strawberry Panic!~ at Anime News Network's Encyclopedia and as far as I know, they're unoffical. I'll change the column header now.--Juhachi 02:17, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

Theme songs

Could someone more proficient with wikitags modify the theme song section so that they properly display the Japanese text and accompanying romaji with the Japanese help text? -- Remy Suen 11:18, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Alright, I got the ED theme finished, but I still don't know what the OP theme translates too.--Juhachi 15:29, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
The third post in this forum thread seems to translate it as 'The Girl Caught in a Maze'. Seems like a reasonably believable translation given the opening scene of Nagisa running down the stairs. Of course, sometimes an opening has nothing to do with the actual song, but anyway... -- Remy Suen 17:16, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
I knew it was, "The Girl Caught in ____," I just couldn't figure out the last word. I looked up the kanji for maze, and it fits the kanji given, so it seems to be an accurate translation. I'll go edit the page now.--Juhachi 23:41, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Future Efforts

I think the next thing that would be easy to tackle would be append a "Voiced by: so-and-so" under each character's description. All the names can just be retrieved from the official site, so that shouldn't be too hard. An episode synopsis similar to the Blood+ article would also be nice in my opinion, can anyone else think of what other material should be added? -- Remy Suen 11:31, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

I suppose you could add who voiced the characters, but I'd use the term seiyū since that way it's more prevalent that it hasn't been translated into English yet. All the seiyū's names can be found at Anime News Network, so you'd just have to copy and paste the names, but make sure the names throughout the whole article are consistant - it's currently Given Name - Sur Name and I believe it should stay that way. As for the episode synopsis', I don't see any major reason for it to be there, but you can if you want.--Juhachi 22:29, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
I'll take a look at some other anime articles and check whether the convention is to use seiyū or some other term. -- Remy Suen 23:35, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
I guess this also raises the question of just how much more information is needed before we should remove the stub marking on the article? -- Remy Suen 02:31, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
Well, added information on the Characters, Schools and Video game sections would be appreciated since those are all still pretty sparce.--Juhachi 02:59, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

Title change?

I was thinking that perhaps the article title should be changed to include a ! but have Strawberry Panic redirect to the new title. This is because on Anime News Network, for one, has the title listed with the ! present, so I was just wondering what people thought about this.--Juhachi 22:33, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

I think the title should be changed as well, the official page doesn't include the exclamation mark in the image or in the HTML code's <title> tag that displays the text at the top of an application's window. -- Remy Suen 23:35, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Oh, I just looked at the Media Works' site on the anime and almost always the title is given with the ! there. Also, the manga has the ! as well, so I'll change it now.--Juhachi 01:32, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
Whoops, I totally misinterpreted your statement of including the exclamation mark instead of excluding. However, given your link to MediaWorks, I guess that's the right way to go! -- Remy Suen 01:51, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

Character Description Revamp

Currently, the character descriptions are formatted like...

Nagisa Aoi
[...]

I'm thinking that it could be altered to...

Nagisa Aoi (蒼井渚砂 Aoi Nagisa)?, (Fourth year)
[...]
Voiced by: Mai Nakahara

This would effectively remove the need to always include what year and school the student is in in the description. Of course, in the future the characters may be split into subsections for each school, but until that happens, this is a good visual indicator to the reader since the school and grade stands out automatically.

For the voicing, it's a toss-up between Voiced by and Seiyū. Though I agree that the latter would clearly indicate to the reader that the name is of the Japanese voice actor, the term may also be a bit foreign to casual viewers of anime. I'm not wedded to this format or anything, but I thought I'd toss it up for discussion since I think that it could be improved. -- Remy Suen 00:39, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

I think that's a pretty good idea, except I changed the style a little since I'm going to just put the characters in sub headings of the schools they attend; you'll see what I mean when I done with it. However, I still say seiyū should be used and besides, if they really don't know what it is, that's what the internal wikilink is for.--Juhachi 01:55, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
If / When you input the seiyū, put them on the same line as their names are so it's all in one place, like this:
Nagisa Aoi (蒼井渚砂 Aoi Nagisa)?, (Fourth year), (Seiyū - Mai Nakahara)

Kanji needed

After inserting the Japanese names written in kanji for all the characters, I still could not find the right kanji for the two characters Tamao and Yaya. If someone can please insert the right kanji for their names, it'd be most appreciated. Go here for the character names written in kanji.--Juhachi 03:17, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

I've made the necessary additions and also changed Momomi's surname from Sayashiki to Kiyashiki. I think ANN is incorrect in this regard if you look closely at the official site's image and compare the hiragana to Nagisa's description. Ki is also a possible pronounciation of 鬼 in "compound kanjis" whereas I've never seen it used as Sa. At around 16:20 in episode seven, Shion also says Kiyashiki. -- Remy Suen 21:01, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Images

I think it's a bit ridiculous to be including images for every single character. In the cases of the anime wiki pages that do do this, their character pages tend to be on a totally separate wiki page, think InuYasha or Gundam SEED. For an article that's so brief (per se, I mean, it's definitely improved a lot from its earlier incarnations), I feel that the number of images in use is disproportional to the amount of text. Remy Suen 11:05, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Okay, so maybe I went a little overboard on the images...We could delete all but a few that have a lot of info on their description. However, when I was inputing the images, I had in mind that it would help people figure out who all these characters are just at a glance since there is a great deal of them to keep track of. Also, like in the Haruhi suzumiya page, adding the images gave people the insentive to input more information to some of the characters that had large white blank spaces where description was lacking.--Juhachi 20:28, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
Well, let's just leave it as is for now and try to up the amount of text that can be added for each character (even if they have "a lot" already). I'll see what I can contribute after I'm done watching episode 8. With regards to the Haruhi page, they have a fair amount of text to somewhat justify it. If you look at the page for Shakugan no Shana, you'll see that images are used very sparingly. Of course, there are articles on either side of this argument, so this debate can go either way, so I think we should just drop this matter, per se, and try to up the textual content. -- Remy Suen 21:05, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
Okay then, I have included a ton of new information to all of the characters except for two. I just could not get down any more info on either Remon or Kagome simply because their charcters are not very well-known and they've only appeared very little in the series thus far.--Juhachi 22:04, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
Another possible solution I just thought of is to try and find a group picture for the school. That would include more characters in one picture. -- Remy Suen 22:24, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

I know they're not up yet, but I really don't think we need to be putting screenshots up for every episode as they do not really illustrate anything unless you put like a major spoiler picture for each episode in. Which in that case, we might as well just give a two sentence episode description like what I had suggested earlier. From the fair use section's remark #3, we really should keep the number of copyrighted images at a minimum where possible. Screenshots for each episode don't really illustrate anything, given the state that the article currently is in. Which goes back to my earlier suggestion above of possibly using a group shot of sorts to note the characters instead of individual photos. -- Remy Suen 11:02, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

You do have a valid point about all the images in use in the article right now, but considering how many characters there are, it would be very difficult for new fans of this series to know who all the characters are quickly without a reference picture; I know it helped me. So far, I have seen one large pic that has about 10 or so of the girls, but each individual person is relatively small and hard to see compared to the close-up pics I have provided. Also, of that large group picture I have seen, I have not seen any that I can use (per copyright reasons) or that are big enough to use, but I'll still keep searching.
As for removing the screenshot column from the table, it seems that the section is built into the code and the full column can't be taken out, though it can be resized to almost nothing, but then that makes it look ugly. We could just leave it as is and wait until someone else comes along and adds the images...--Juhachi 03:27, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

Article Scope

I think it should be noted somewhere on the article that the information is essentially purely based on what's reflected in the animation series and not the manga or the light novel (assuming there is one). -- Remy Suen 10:43, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

I suppose that would be a valid point to make, though without any current Manga or Light novel sections as of right now, it may be a bit superficial, at least until those sections get included. Since the Manga and/or Light novel sections haven't been included yet, I would think that readers would assume that most (if not all) of the information comes from the anime. But also if you think about it, most series' share much in commen from the manga that they spawned from. So far, the only difference I know of (since it was told to me) is that the Etoile system in the manga is slightly different; I'm not going to say how if you want to find out yourself by reading it. Other things such as: Plot, Characters, and the Schools are most likely almost exactly like how they were presented in the manga and/or light novels, I would assume. Everything else in the article is either obviously from the anime (Episodes and Theme songs) or not subject to be specific to either (Trivia and External links).--Juhachi 01:03, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
I have just added a References section that clearly shows the article scope.--Juhachi 04:24, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Stub template removal?

After looking over all the information given on this article, do you think it's finally time to remove the anime/manga stub template at the bottom of the article?--Juhachi 04:13, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

I think we've got at least decent coverage on each section, so I think it's about time that we removed the stub template. -- Remy Suen 04:28, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
