Stroud Green, London
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stroud Green is a suburb (and administrative ward) of Greater London located in Haringey.
Residents will be familiar with the task of explaining that it lies between Finsbury Park and Crouch End. Estate agents have reportedly attempted to rename it Stroud Green Village in a bid to add cachet.
The housing is largely Victorian and Edwardian, though there was extensive bomb damage in parts from the Second World War and there is a lot of later council housing, especially LCC type walk up blocks.
In the 1970s there was an extensive campaign against private landlordism, with Stroud Green being labelled as "Haringey's forgotten inner city" - the campaign was successful in securing large scale municipalisation in the southern end of the ward.
The now-closed Stroud Green railway station was in this suburb.
